Game Night With the Fam

Friday night we had such a fun night playing games and being together. Gracie Claire got several games for Christmas that she has, all of a sudden, become very interested in, so we let her choose, and she picked Hi Ho Cherry-O. SO FUN...

Some Sugar

1 Down - 1 To Go

I posted a while ago, before Molly was born, about making quilts for Gracie Claire and Sydney. Guess what?! Sydney's is done! It turned out so precious...I love it!! We ended up sending it to a lady to get it quilted, but other than that, I sewed all of the squares and Emily did the rest. Isn't it beautiful! My sweet Sydney LOVES it!

Once we get the shams done and some throw pillows, I'll post a picture of the whole bed.

The backing is done in all minky so it's super soft.

Love it!

We're going to get to work on Gracie Claire's quilt tomorrow. Here's a sneak peak of the fabrics that we're using. I can't wait to get hers done!

The Funky Monkey

I'd been wanting to go into The Funky Monkey forever and finally did with Emily while the girls were at school. Let me tell you...it's fabuloso! If you've never been, click here, and then go shop at the store. It has lots of fun stuff...clothes, accessories, fun home decor, and lots of other things. I have a wish list of several things that I saw -- decor type stuff for the new casa. But, don't think I left empty-handed. Here's what I got--

Molly's room is done in black, white, and pink. I thought this precious little lamp would look so cute in her room. Love it!

They have lots of fun shirts, t-shirts, etc. I loved this t-shirt (which is what I mostly wear as a stay-at-home mommy.) If you can't quite see the words at the bottom, it says, "Is the Reason."

So, there you have it. The Funky Monkey is so fun! Go!

She's The Big Sister

Saturday night after church, Gracie Claire and Sydney went home with BigPa and Gigi (my parents) to spend the night. Gracie Claire has done this several times, but this was Sydney's first sleepover. They were both super excited! My parents told us the most precious story the next day when they brought the girls back home.

Gracie Claire took her fave movie of the moment -- "Annie" -- to watch with BigPa and Gigi. They got about halfway through the movie when mom took Sydney in to put her down for bed. Sydney wasn't thrilled, so mom stayed with her for a little while, only getting up when she thought Sydney was asleep. Sydney never went to sleep. Mom said she kept feeling for her face and whispering, "Gigi...Gigi," just to make sure she was still there. Finally, she got up and let her cry a little. Then my Dad went to try to comfort for a little while. No luck there either. Sydney is my stubborn girl. Finally, "Annie" ended and BigPa and Gigi brought Gracie Claire in. After Dad and Mom tucked them in and left, Sydney started up again and then Gracie Claire started in. When Gigi asked why she was crying, Gracie Claire said, "Sydney is waking me up!" Dad and Mom reminded her that she was the big sister and that Sydney is always watching her, so if she doesn't cry, that might help Sydney stop crying. Trying again, they left to Sydney still fussing and then heard a sweet little voice say, "Syd, do you want me to tell you a story?" BigPa and Gigi said they stood outside of the door and listened to Gracie Claire tell Sydney three stories. When she finished with the last one, she asked Sydney if she wanted another and didn't get a response (because Syd had fallen asleep,) so my big girl rolled over and went to sleep herself. What a precious big sister my Gracie Claire is to her little sisters. I just love being their Mommy!

My Sleepy Sydney

Paul went upstairs on Saturday to wake Sydney up from her nap. One fabulous thing about my Syd is that she doesn't get off of her bed. She goes to the bottom corner and waits until someone comes to get her when she wakes up. Yesterday she must have crawled to her corner a before she went to sleep because this is what Paul found when he went to get her:

The Big 3-0...and Some Other Stuff

A week after Molly was born, I turned 30. It was kind of exciting more than anything. There wasn't a big party and nothing out of the ordinary happened, but it still felt exciting. My twenties were awesome. So many blessings were a part of my twenties. I graduated from college, taught 1st grade for 3 years, met and married Paul, had my three babies, and so many other things that I could list. God really blessed my twenties...beyond what I could've ever imagined. I can't wait to see what my thirties hold. My goals for this year are major. I want to be the best wife and mommy that I can be. That encompasses lots of things. It means being the best Christian I can be first and foremost. It means being the wife God wants me to be and being the mommy He wants me to be. It means loving hard, meeting every need I can meet to the best of my ability, and it means being an example. My other goal for the year is becoming a healthier me. I want to become better about my spiritual health making my Bible study and prayer life stronger. I want to serve. I want to make a difference. I want to become better about my physical health by taking care of myself through healthy eating and exercise. This is hard, but I want my girls to grow up with this as part of their everyday life. This is lots to reach for, but I can't think of a better time to reach for it than turning 30.

Because I'm not one for a blog that's too serious...picture this. Gracie Claire and me working out using the Wii Fit. We stepped, did some strength exercises, played some balance games (I'm getting good at ski-jumping ;) and did some crazy yoga moves (our favorite is the sun-salutation.) She did 40 minutes with me the other day while Sydney and Molly were napping. I've got a workout buddy already. :)

Molly's Story

My babies love to stay nice and warm in my belly. The closest I've come to going into labor on my own was with Gracie Claire. And even though I'd started labor with her, I still got some help with the pitocin. When I had Sydney I was induced and it went the same way with my Molly. I have to admit, I do enjoy knowing the day that they're coming. It takes a little of the anxiety away. Anyway, we woke up super early, around 4:30, to get to the hospital by 5 on Wednesday, October 29th -- the day our youngest baby girl would make her big debut. My mom spent the night with us the night before so she could be with Gracie Claire and Sydney when they woke up. Even though I had done this twice before, I was still nervous. Giving birth, having three kids, and everything that comes with having a newborn can do that to you. Mostly though, I was super excited. I couldn't wait to see what Molly looked like, what her demeanor would be, etc. We made it to the hospital right on time and they took me right in to get my gorgeous gown on and everything set up. My nurse, who would only be my nurse for a couple of hours, got busy having me sign all of the paperwork, wrapping the fun monitors around my huge belly, and asking me all of the fun questions. After all of that was done, it was time to get the IV in. She told me she has a "one stick" policy, so if she missed the first time, she would hand it off to another nurse. She missed. Thankfully, getting stuck doesn't bother me. Really it was more comical than anything. Paul, who hates needles, was trying to ignore everything that was going on. His head was buried in his iPhone...a great distraction. When the next nurse came in, she missed too. She told me I was "valvy." OK. That explains it. I've been told over and over that I'm a hard person to get an IV into. It sort of makes me laugh because every nurse that tries is always really confident that they'll be the one that gets it in the first time. Oh well. Third time's a charm. With the IV in, they got the pitocin going. Going in, I was already at a 2 and starting to thin out. But, I'd stayed there for the last couple of weeks. Once we got the the pitocin going, they pretty much left us alone and we both snoozed for a little while. When the sun finally came up, I woke up to my next nurse. I wish I remembered their names. She was adjusting everything and told me she had turned my pitocin up. She then checked me and said I was only at a 3. WOOT! That's progress! My Dad came by on his way to work to pray with us. He has done that with us for all three of my girls. They are sweet memories. My doctor came in soon after, checked me, and broke my water. I have to give a shout-out to my doctor. He's the best! He's been there for all of my births and he's there from when I start pushing until the very end, as well as checking on me several times throughout the day. He's definitely not one of these show up to catch and go doctors. I totally appreciate that about him. He's totally laid back as well. And funny. He told me after he broke my water that I could get an epidural as soon as I wanted it, but, that the anesthesiologist was getting ready to go into a C-section, so if I wanted to wait it might be a little while. I decided to wait. The contractions were coming consistently, but they weren't really that uncomfortable yet. He was cool with that and left to do his rounds. My mom got there sometime between 10 and 11 and we told her I was at a 4 and slowly progressing. She checked her e-mail, Paul went and got breakfast, and I ran through all of the channels on the TV. During this time, my contractions were getting much more uncomfortable and I decided that when the anesthesiologist was available, I'd take the epidural. I know we all have our own opinions, but the miracle of pain medication is fabulous in my opinion. I told my nurse, she let the doctor know and we waited. My nurse checked me again right before my epidural and I was still at a 4. Not shocking. The very sweet anesthesiologist came in, did her magic, and I sat in the glory of numbness. Since I got up at 4:30 and had gone to bed around midnight the night before, I was super sleepy, so since I could feel no pain, I went to sleep. My mom and Paul went and got lunch, sat and chatted, fiddled on the computer, and made calls to update on the progress. Around 2:45, after a pretty restful nap, I woke up feeling some pain. I figured my epidural needed a little boost, so I buzzed my nurse, told her I thought I might need a little more numbing, and she asked me if I was sure it wasn't pressure. I didn't think it was pressure. I remembered what the pressure felt like from my two other babies, and it didn't feel like this. She decided to check me anyway just to see. She said, "Think a 7." OK. Thinking 7. While checking she says, "Your weren't thinking 7." Oh well. I wasn't surprised I hadn't progressed that far. Then she said, "You're at a 9 and fully effaced!" WHAT?! It has never happened this fast before! YAY! I was thrilled. She said she was going to call my doctor and we would get the show on the road. My only worry was that my sister wasn't there yet. My mom and my sister have been there for all three of my babies' births. I was afraid Gracie might miss this one. I told mom to call her and tell her she better get here. Mom also called Dad and he headed our way too. Paul's Dad and Janice were on the way and we were so excited that we weren't going to have to wait much longer. When my nurse returned from calling Dr. A, I told her I was feeling the urge to push. She gave me permission (as if I needed permission) and she decided that she better call Dr. A and tell him to move fast. When he got there, my sister had still not gotten there and I was sad that she might not make it. My nurse had said no one would be allowed in after things had gotten going. Really?! Shouldn't it be up to me? When she showed up, I was at a place where my nurse was not willing to let her come in. Thankfully, Dr. A came to the rescue. He calmly used his authority and said somebody needed to let her in. YAY! She only missed a little of the pushing and within three good pushes and 7 minutes, my beautiful Molly Joy joined our world at 3:38 p.m. Paul cut the cord and they laid her on my chest. My easiest birth yet! She was 7 lbs. 6 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long. She is a complete delight and such a sweet, calm, and content baby! We are so blessed to have been given our third baby girl and couldn't imagine life without her!!

Our littlest princess now. Accessories courtesy of her biggest sister.

Annoying

I didn't have this on my list of things to blog about, but I just saw it again on the news, and I have to say, it's really very annoying. I'm not going to get into any deep political talk on here, but I have to say that if you're elected President of the United States, you should at least know how to hold a pen/pencil correctly.

An explanation: His wrist is twisted and he is basically writing upside down.

I am a left-handed person who is a former first grade teacher. I taught handwriting for goodness sake. There are proper ways to hold your writing utensil! I understand he wasn't taught properly, but these things can be changed Mr. President! Now, before anyone thinks I'm being disrespectful, please know that I understand I am to respect those who are in authority. This is just a respectful observation. If you are a left-handed person who also holds their pen/pencil in the same way, please know that I'm not criticizing you personally. It's just a pet-peeve. :)

My Funny Girl

I've written before about the funny things that my sweet Gracie Claire says and I have several more to add to the list. My almost 4 year old (gasp!) makes me laugh everyday with the things that she comes up with. She is definitely a talker and loves to make her opinions known, tell us what her plans are, and make us laugh. These are just a few that I want to remember.
  • The other night we were watching "The Biggest Loser" and (I hope no one is offended by this) Gracie Claire says, "Why are we watching a show about fat people?" We were shocked that she even knew to describe someone in this way because we sure don't talk about others that way. Then she went on to say, "Let's change it. Fat people are mean." WHAT?! Paul explained to her that we do not tell someone they are fat and, more importantly, just because someone may be "fat" doesn't mean they aren't nice. It means they've made unhealthy eating choices and have chosen not to exercise. ARGHHH. This conversation was an interesting discussion more than a funny...although I do have to admit, it made me snicker.
  • We went to eat with my sister a couple of weeks ago and she and Gracie Claire sat next to each other. Gracie (my sister) asked Gracie Claire to move her cup so she wouldn't bump it with her elbow. Gracie Claire tried to argue with her before we stopped her and told her she needed to tell Aunt Gracie that she was sorry for talking back to her. She looked at Gracie and said, "Aunt Gracie, I apologize for talking back to you." This would be funny because we've never heard her use the word, "apologize." She has always said, "I'm sorry." I love when she uses her ever expanding vocabulary.
  • Gracie Claire is very perceptive when it comes to our moods. She catches on right away when we're upset about something. Lately, when she notices a lull in my mood, she says, "Don't be grumpy to us Mommy." It kind of puts me in my place...reminding me that little eyes are always watching and little ears are always listening. On the other hand, when we've gotten after her recently, she says, "Don't be rude!" Ummm...not OK! :)
  • She is obsessed with parades. She has many parades, different types, throughout the week. There are princess parades (the most popular,) musical parades, and parades with her friends, just to name a few. I think the obsession started when we attended the big Newtown parade last summer when we went to my Dad's hometown anniversary in Missouri. It's the only parade she's ever been to.
  • Because she is still loving all things princess, she has also learned about Disney World and pretends almost daily that she is going on vacation there. She says, "Mommy, I'm going on a play date today to Disney World. Me and Sydney are going with Daddy. You're not coming." OK. But, I will have her know that when the day comes to take a trip to Disney, I will be there! :)
  • When I picked my sweet girl up from school yesterday, we went and played on the play scape. While she was waiting for me to help her with her shoes, she put her arms around my neck and said, "I love you so very much Mommy!" *tear* I love you too, so very much, my Gracie Claire!
  • One of her favorite games to play with her Daddy is "Princess." She lays down on the ground, and Daddy, who plays the part of the prince, finds her and tries to wake her, but figures out that he can only wake her with a kiss. Lately, she's been telling him that he needs to dress up in his prince clothes...which need to be purple.
  • My girl is a fan of movies. Around Christmastime, I let her watch "Annie," for the first time. She LOVES it! We've watched it several times since the first viewing and she has quickly learned the songs and has picked out her favorite scenes which she constantly wants to reenact. Her very favorite scene is when Duffy, one of the orphans, puts a mouse down Miss Hannigan's dress. We've acted this out sooo many times. When I get the lines wrong, she quickly corrects me and we have to start over. She also calls the movie, "Hannie." I've corrected her many times, but she insists that it's "Hannie." Awesome.
  • One night while Paul was putting Gracie Claire and Sydney to bed, I heard the most adorable conversation between him and GC. They got to talking about when she grows up. Paul told her that she wouldn't live with us when she became an adult. Her response was, "But Daddy, I don't want to live alone." He told her that she wouldn't live alone, she would live with her husband. She started talking about who her husband would be and told Paul, "I will marry you Daddy." He told her that she couldn't marry him because he was already married to Mommy. She then said she would marry BigPa (my Dad.) Paul told her she couldn't marry BigPa because he was married to Gigi. Then she tried Parker, our nephew. He explained that she couldn't marry Parker because he was her cousin. She finally said, "OK...I'll marry Luke!" Luke is one of her favorite friends...the little brother of Claire, Gracie Claire's BFF. Paul told her that when she grew up, if she loved Luke and Luke loved her, and they both loved Jesus, then yes, she could marry Luke. That seemed to satisfy her...until she realized one more scenario. The last question she asked Paul was, "Daddy...what if I don't get married?" Paul told her she could live with us if she didn't get married. I have a feeling that won't be an issue.
Well, there you go. I'll end with a few of the faces of my sweet girl.

Blog Drought

For some reason, I've not been a good blogger lately. I have a few things I could write about, but have been a bad mommy and haven't taken many pictures since Christmas. I got the camera out today and promise to be better. I guess I could blog w/o pictures, but seriously, we all know reading my deep thoughts and ramblings is not what most visit my blog for! :)

Here's the list of things that I need to blog about:
  • Funny Things Gracie Claire Says
  • Updates on the Girls
  • Gracie Claire's and Sydney's 4th & 2nd Birthday (coming in Feb.)
  • Molly's Birth Story (3 months late)
  • Quilts
  • The Funky Monkey
  • Diet and Exercise
  • Turning 30
OK...I think that's a good list for now. I'm sure there will be other things that come to me that I will post about as I think of them. I'll be back soon!
