On My iPod

Do you ever have certain songs that you listen to over and over and over and over?  I've got a few that I play a gazillion times in a row lately.  Some are new, some are old, but they're all songs that mean something to me right now.  So, here ya go friends.  Here's what's on my iPod...

"Move" -- by MercyMe
Love this one!  And if you don't love yo'self some MercyMe...well, you're weird.

"Your Hands" -- by JJ Heller
Love, love, love this song!  It's new to me.  I heard it after seeing it on my friend Melissa's blog.  One of my favorite verses ever is Isaiah 49:16, "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;  your walls are ever before me."  We are in His hands and our names are written there.

"Everything I Need" -- by Kutless
I've already blogged about this song...just had to put it on my list.

"Jesus Freak" -- by DC Talk
An oldie but a goodie.  I just put this on my iPod.  Always a Jesus Freak! :)

"Lift Me Up" -- by The Afters
Reminds you that He has you.  Encouraging, yo. Love it!

"Hold Me" -- by Jamie Grace feat. tobyMac (the rappin' white guy from DC Talk!:))
Listen to this one on the way to school on many mornings.  Gets you ready for your day.

All of these songs really follow the theme of reminding me who is in control.  Something I need a lot of lately.  Do you have any to add to my list? :)

P.S. If you're reading on FB...click on the "read original post" to see my blog.  You won't be able to see the whole post on FB. :)  Happy iPod playing friends!

John, Friendship, Pinterest, Exercise

I've decided to combine the last four topics from my list into one post.  Otherwise it could be forever before I get to each one.  First up...

John...
I'm doing a Bible study on Thursday nights that I am so, so glad that I signed up for.  It is facilitated by some awesome ladies as well as attended by some great gals.  We focus on a section from the book of John each week.  There are no workbooks.  It's just plain and simple Bible study.  I really love how it has been set up...we write down the passage we're studying word for word, put it into our own words, and then just write our thoughts, what we get out of it, what is in our hearts because of it.  Each week I've come away with something new that I've never thought about with each passage.  All of the scriptures are so familiar, but it's amazing that, no matter how many times you read it, God can always make it applicable to your life in that moment.  Not only am I loving this time of getting together during the week, but I'm also loving that this is helping me in staying accountable in my Bible study.  I'm sad to say that I'm not always consistent.  I'm the loving the encouragement, prayer time, and wisdom that I'm getting from our study each week.  It's a time of refreshment for me!

Friendship...
Hmmm...so many things I could write about here.  I think what I'm going to say is that I'm realizing lately how very important friendship is to me.  People come in and out of our lives and some stay for a long time and others are there for a season.  I really feel like our friendships have purpose.  I have always known that I've had certain connections with certain people.  There are some friendships that will always be there, no matter how long it has been since we've seen or talked to each other.  I have a couple of friends from childhood that are that way.  Anytime we get together, it's like we've never been apart.  I have a couple of those from adulthood too.  Those are the ones that I cherish the most.  Friendships that come without conditions or expectations.  I hope you know who you are...because I heart you friends!

Pinterest...
This will be short.  I LOVE Pinterest.  It's the best thing on the web right now...at least in my opinion.  If I let myself, I could sit and pin for hours.  It's a time waster and it's genius!  Some of my fave pins right now...

Girly Things...

School Ideas...and so much more!  I LOVE Pinterest!
Exercise...
I'm working on it.  Some weeks are awesome.  Some are big fat fails.  I really notice a difference when I don't workout.  I'm more likely to be in a better mood when I workout.  I have way more energy.  I feel so much better.  I need a workout buddy, though.  I think it would make things way easier.  So...I'm on the search.  :)

So there ya have it! 4 posts in one.  :)

Plans {Part 3}

If you're a regular reader, you know about the past couple of years and the faith growing experiences we've been through as a family.  If you've read my posts, "Plans {Part 1}" and "Plans {Part 2}," you know the feelings I've had and the work God has done in and on my heart.  Well...He just keeps working on me.

I've really been struggling lately with planning for the future and wanting to know exactly what's going to happen.  Hmmm Amanda, you'd think after seeing God work in your life time and time again, you'd know better than to think that you're in control.  I'm also dealing with really feeling guilty about doing anything for myself...exercising, going on a date with my hubster, or spending time with friends.  Doing this stuff takes me away from my girls and I'm already away from them for the majority of the day as it is.  I hate taking even more time away from them to do any of these things.  Therefore, exercise gets the shaft the majority of the time, Paul and I rarely go on dates, and I never see or spend time with friends.  Basically, and if I can be blunt here, it sucks to feel like that.  Apparently, I still have some work to do.

I was talking to my favorite dad about my worries and feelings of guilt, and he reminded me that guilt should only come when someone has done something wrong.  Exercising, going on dates with Paul, and spending time with my friends are all healthy things for me.  Doing those things makes me a better wife and mommy.  They help me feel refreshed.  Duh Amanda.  I mean really.  Duh.  I, of course, know all of this, but I really think the idiot from the depths of the abyss, otherwise known as hell, really likes to make me feel guilty for doing those things.  I think he'd like for me to believe that I wouldn't be as good of a mom, or the girls might resent me one day for doing those things.  I know it all sounds so ridiculous.  So, all of that to say, I'm going to be fighting against those feelings.  I want to be healthy and set an example of a healthy lifestyle for my girls.  I want to date my husband.  The girls need to see that their parents love to spend time away from them.  One day, it will be just us again, so it's important that we continue to grow in our marriage.  I want to have fun with my friends.  I want the girls to see examples of good friendships.  Doing these things for myself will benefit my marriage and my little ladies.  Adios guilt.

I've also been really concerned lately with the future.  I would love to be able to stay at home again one day.  I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I was suppose to work this year.  God made that abundantly clear.  I also know that if I can't be at home, I want to be teaching.  I love teaching.  I love the kids.  I love my co-workers.  The problem is that I'm already thinking about next year and what will happen.  Will I work?  Will I stay home?  I want that to be answered now.  Seriously?  You would think that I would know by now that God is in control.  He paves our path.  He provides. He has our names written on the palm of His hand.  Obviously, I have short term memory.  My dad talked to me about worry and reminded me about how God takes care of the ravens and the wild flowers and how we are so much more valuable to him than they are.  Worrying about the future does nothing for us.

22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[b]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.  Luke 12:22-31

Do I trust Him?  Obviously I need to work on it.  Big time.

I'm not one to talk about this kind of stuff without crying a few tears...and I was crying them that night when I was talking to dad.  He gave me, as usual, encouragement and a better way to look at things, but the story doesn't end there.  As we were finishing up our conversation, Gracie Claire walked up to us.  She looked right at me and said, "Mommy, I have a verse that will help you.  'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord. 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you.  Plans to give you hope and a future.'"  Guess who was doing her ugly cry?   If you guessed me, then you get a gold star.  God is amazing in how He uses your children to teach you.  My sweet little girl encouraged her mama that night and helped remind me that God has us.  He has never let us go, and He never will.

Everything I Need

Today is a day that we remember and will never forget.  There was evil, devastation, shock, horror, loss.  Heroes ran to do everything they could as our country cried out.  We will never know why our country suffered the horror that it did and why so many innocent lives were lost, but we do know that we have a God that never let go of us.  He was in control on that day 10 years ago and He is still in control.  So many heroes died on that day, and they will never be forgotten.  The ultimate hero died a criminal's death on a cross 2000 years ago.  He is the one who carries us.  He is everything we need.

I love this song for so many reasons.  I listen to it over and over.  Jesus is who we need.  There will be no end to evil until he comes again.  I'm so thankful for the hope that we have in Him.  He is strength in our weakness.  He is our refuge.  He is everything we need.

When every step is so hard to take
And all of my hope is fading away
When life is a mountain that I can not climb
You carry me, Jesus carry me.
You Are strength in my weakness
You are the refuge I seek
You are everything in my time of need
You are everything, You are everything I need
When every moment is more than I can take
And all of my strength is slipping away
When every breath gets harder me
You carry me, Jesus carry me
You Are strength in my weakness
You are the refuge I seek
You are everything in my time of need
You are everything, You are everything I need
I need You
You are everything I need
I love everything about You

You Are strength in my weakness
You are the refuge I seek
You are everything in my time of need
You are everything, You are everything I need

Fwiper No Fwiping!!

Our sweet Molly has a small ginormous obsession with our friends Dora, Boots, and Swiper, or as she calls them, Derla, Boots, and Fwiper. She hearts them big time. When you ask her who her favorite character is, she always says, "Fwiper the Fox!" If you know our Molly well, then this is not surprising to you. She is our child who has a bit of that Swiper spunk. Therefore when I found a "Fwiper the Fox" toy for 5 bucks on Amazon, I ordered right then and there. This, then, is the moment that we gave "Fwiper" to our Mollster.
We had told her we had a surprise for her, so this would be her, "Really...a surprise?  I don't know what you're talking about" look.  Sidenote:  Her jammie pants are, indeed, inside out, her top and pants do not match, and her hair has not been brushed.  This look fits her well. :)
When I pulled "Fwiper" out, this was the hilarious look on her face.  I love that we caught it in a picture!!!
 Pure excitement!
 "Fwiper's" new Mom...
They have been inseperable for the last few days.  "Derla" and Boots will be soon to follow.
Oh Mollinator...you rock. :)

I Don't Want To Forget...

a few things the girls have said/done lately.

-Tonight during our prayer time before bed, Paul asked the girls to say one thing they were thankful for. Sydney answered that she was thankful for Elkanah, Dianah, and Samuel--our CRF kids. The girls pray for them all the time and I love that Syd is thankful for them. Gracie Claire said that she was thankful for small mammals. Hmmm...awesome. Molly (as she was jumping on her bed) said she was thankful for exercise. Alrighty then. They make me laugh.
-Sydney made a little paper bird kite in one of her Bible classes this week. She kept asking if she could go outside to fly her "tight." Because I thought it was so cute I kept asking her what it was she wanted to go outside and do and she finally looked at me and said, "t-t-t-t tight!!! I want to go fly my tight!!!" :)
-Molly has a penguin toy that looks a lot like a punching bag that she loves lately. She wants to drag that thing everywhere. When we asked her why she loved it so much, she simply said, "It's cute!" Well, of course! When it was her turn to pray tonight, she thanked God for, "my penguin who has balls in his belly." Side note so you're not confused--the penguin has a clear tummy with colorful, plastic balls inside. Makes punching him more fun, I guess. :)
-Gracie Claire has a little one in her class who has special needs. She has a really big heart for kids who have special needs. She came home from school and told me about this sweet person and then said, "Mommy...I really want to be friends with {blank.}" Proud moment.

*Sigh* I love my girls!

Hair Girl Wanna-Be

That's me! I found a couple of blogs of mommies who post all of these super cute hair ideas that they do on their little girls. So...I decided to try some out on the little ladies. Of course they were the perfect little models! :) (Yes...they are wearing their swimming suits. They just like to hang out in them...it's just how we roll at our hizouse.) I didn't do a shabby job on their hair either, if I do say so myself! Bows were added for a finishing touch, BTW. :)

First Day Jitters

I always get them...even though I'm the teacher. And I love that book, by the way. Good first day read. :) It was a great first day to begin the new school year. Gracie Claire was so excited and she had a great first day too. *Sigh* My big girl is a first grader. I'm so proud, teary, and excited all at the same time. Love my big girl. And now, for pictures...

P.S. -- I have no stinkin' clue why my sidebar has disappeared from the side and is now beneath all of my posts. If you have any ideas...please fill me in!!

My Blessings

Keep on scrollin' to see a couple more new posts below! :)

Meet The Teacher

Last night was "Meet The Teacher" at my school. I got to meet most of the little firsties that will be in my class and I have to say I'm excited! They were as sweet as they could be!

As much as I love meeting my own students, Meet The Teacher has a whole new meaning when you have your own kids. We, of course, already know Gracie Claire's sweet teacher, but we want Gracie Claire to get to be involved in all of the activities that come with going to school. I'm doing a bit better than I was last year with my emotions. Taking my baby to Kindergarten was a little different because it was a first. First grade is exciting because she is in the grade that I teach, she is right next door to me (in fact, I have windows that I can look through into her classroom), and her teacher is my flex mate! We have been blessed again with another wonderful teacher. A definite answer to prayer! Mrs. Morgan was a kindergarten teacher the last few years, but how awesome is it that we get to have her for first grade (for a teacher and my teammate!) She fits everything that we prayed for in a first grade teacher for our GC...she loves the Lord, she is loving, and she's an amazing teacher. Jackpot! :) Gracie Claire is so excited for first grade and we can't wait to see how much she grows this year...but, it doesn't have to go so fast!

Checking out her new desk! :)

Reading her scavenger hunt all by herself.

LOVE

Gracie Claire and Mrs. Morgan :)
